Medicos del Mundo (MdM) is an independent international movement of active campaigners, who provide care, bear witness, and support social change. MdM campaigns for a world without any barriers to healthcare, a world in which health is recognized as a fundamental right. Medicos del Mundo is the Spanish division of the international MdM Network implementing emergency response and development programmes in Ukraine. MdM Mission in Ukraine was established following the emergency assessment conducted in April 2015 and focused on changes in the availability of and access to healthcare, particularly for the most vulnerable groups of the population, including the elderly and people with chronic diseases. One of the main goals of MdM is ensuring and extending the access of the Ukrainian population to timely and quality primary healthcare (PHC), Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services, and Gender Based Violence (GBV) prevention. In Chernihiv, Chernivtsi, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts MdM is targeting the most vulnerable communities through the mobile outreach unit approach, covering locations that have been affected by the hostilities or hosting large numbers of Internally Displaced People in the situation when the health system has been severely disrupted and overloaded during the war.
ORGANIZATION CHART
Direct Supervision: Reports to the MHPSS Roving Manager (East) for daily operational guidance and management, under the final oversight of the Field Expert (East).
GEOGRAPHICAL SCOPE OF INTERVENTION:
The incumbent is based in Kharkiv with daily trips to other locations in the Kharkiv region as per project needs.

JOB SUMMARY
The MHPSS Officer holds primary responsibility for the comprehensive design, implementation, and oversight of capacity-strengthening initiatives within the project scope, ensuring that all activities align with established technical frameworks and effectively contribute to building sustainable competencies among targeted stakeholders. This includes designing and delivering tailored trainings, facilitating interactive workshops, and actively participating in technical cluster meetings to promote best practices and knowledge sharing.Secondarily, the role encompasses networking and coordination with stakeholders to enhance access to MHPSS services and address the mental health and psychosocial needs of target populations.
FUNCTIONS
1. Project Planning and Implementation
- Implement and follow up on MHPSS capacity-building programs, including evidence-based interventions such as PM+, SH+, mhGAP, and others.
- Conduct MHPSS needs assessments, map services, and maintain referral pathways in coordination with stakeholders.
- Organize and supervise training activities to build the capacity of helping professionals and community focal points.
- Ensure activities adhere to IASC MHPSS Guidelines, national/international standards, and MdM policies.
2. Community Engagement and Awareness
- Plan and deliver awareness-raising activities to reduce stigma and promote access to MHPSS services.
- Develop strategies to reach vulnerable groups and address their specific needs.
- Support community-level capacity-building initiatives to enhance MHPSS understanding and interventions.
3. Management and Coordination
- Maintain regular contact with NGOs, local authorities, and other service providers to coordinate MHPSS activities.
- Collaborate with the health and outreach teams to ensure comprehensive MHPSS support.
- Update service provider mapping and ensure smooth referrals for beneficiaries.
4. Monitoring and Reporting
- Collect, analyze, and report MHPSS data to assess activity outcomes and recommend improvements.
- Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual reports in coordination with the MHPSS Manager and technical teams.
- Regularly update work plans and activity schedules to reflect progress and needs.
5. Other Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with MdM’s security rules and code of conduct.
- Actively participate in team planning, meetings, and advocacy activities as needed.
- Perform additional duties as requested by the MHPSS Manager or Field Expert (East).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Academic Background: A degree in Psychology is required; a Master's degree in Psychotherapy is considered an asset.
- Certifications: Certifications in the mhGAP Program, PM+ Program, and DWM Program are highly valued.
- Training: CETA training is an asset.
- Other Qualifications: Additional training or certifications in evidence-based MHPSS interventions are considered an asset.
REQUIREMENTS:
Language requirements:
- Ukrainian and Russian
- English advanced is an asset.
Computer requirements: Competency in Microsoft Office Package.
EXPERIENCE
- At least 2 years of clinical mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) experience in humanitarian settings.
- Proven experience in developing and leading training courses on MHPSS and GBV, particularly for primary health care staff.
