Position: Marketing & Communication Advisor
Location: Kyiv and project locationsDuration: 1 year (with a possibility of extension)
Reporting to: Communication & Visibility Specialist, Caritas Switzerland
1. Background Information
The REMARKET Project aims to address the economic and social challenges faced by IDPs, returnees, and host community members in Ukraine due to the ongoing conflict. The project focuses on enhancing market access, promoting economic empowerment, and fostering social cohesion among war-affected populations.
Effective marketing and communication are critical to the success of the project, ensuring that the target audience is aware of and can access the opportunities provided. Additionally, clear communication of the project's objectives and achievements to external stakeholders, including donors and the public, is essential.
The Marketing & Communication Advisor will play a key role in promoting the project, raising awareness, and ensuring effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
2. Objectives
The primary objective of the Marketing & Communication Advisor is to support the Communication & Visibility Specialist to develop and implement marketing and communication strategies that enhance the visibility of the REMARKET Project and ensure effective communication with the target audience and stakeholders.
Specific Objectives:
- Support Communication & Visibility Specialist to develop a marketing and communication strategy that aligns with the project's goals and objectives
- Provide advisory support to the Communication & Visibility Specialist to ensure that project activities and achievements are effectively communicated to the target audience and stakeholders.
3. Scope of Work
He/she will work closely with the Communication & Visibility Specialist to ensure that all marketing, communication, and visibility efforts are aligned and reinforce each other. The scope of work includes:
- Strategic Planning
- A comprehensive Communication and Visibility Strategy document, developed in collaboration with the Communication & Visibility Specialist, including a detailed action plan, target audiences, messaging, and marketing channels, approved within the first two months of the project.
- Content Development
- A series of high-quality marketing materials, such as brochures, newsletters, promotional videos, and social media content, developed in collaboration with the Communication & Visibility Specialist and project partners to ensure consistency in messaging and branding.
- At least one major marketing campaign launched pear year, in coordination with the project partners, to promote the impact of the project and achievements of the project participants.
- Branding and Positioning
- A project branding strategy, developed in collaboration with the Communication & Visibility Specialist, that ensures all project materials and communications adhere to donor and project branding guidelines.
- Consistent application of branding across all project materials, including online and offline platforms, coordinated with the Communication & Visibility Specialist.
- Capacity Building
- At least two training sessions conducted for project staff and local partners on marketing best practices
- A toolkit, co-developed with the Communication & Visibility Specialist, distributed to project staff and partners, providing guidelines and resources for effective marketing and communication.
4. Roles & Responsibilities
- Support the Communication & Visibility Specialist to develop a comprehensive marketing and communication strategy for the project, ensuring it aligns with the project’s objectives and donor requirements.
- Ensure that all communication materials are consistent with the project/donor’s branding guidelines.
- Monitor the effectiveness of marketing and communication activities and provide regular reports to the Project Manager.
5. Duration & Timeline
The Marketing & Communication Advisor will be engaged for the full duration of the project equivalent to 84 days - from January 2025 to July 2027, with a focus on the following key milestones:
- Year 1 (28 days): Develop the marketing and communication strategy and begin implementing key activities.
- Year 2 (28 days): Monitor progress, provide ongoing support, and adjust activities based on feedback.
- Year 3 (28 days): Evaluate the project’s impact on visibility and communication, integrate lessons learned, and develop recommendations on sustainability and handover plans for marketing and communication efforts.
6. Reporting Requirements and Sustainability
The Marketing & Communication Advisor will be required to provide regular reports to the Communication & Visibility Specialist of Caritas Switzerland.
As the project nears completion, the Marketing & Communication Advisor will be responsible for developing a sustainability plan. This plan will ensure that marketing and communication efforts can continue to support the project’s objectives beyond its lifespan, and that local partners are equipped to maintain these activities independently.
7. Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in marketing and communication, preferably within the development or humanitarian sector in Ukraine, or internationally
- Proven experience in developing content for various platforms, including print, digital, and social media for international humanitarian and development organizations or INGOs
- Demonstrated experience in managing relationships with different stakeholders, and coordinating community engagements, preferably in Eastern Europe
- Experience in training and capacity building of local staff and partners in marketing and communication, using cutting-edge tools
Skills:
- Fluency in English is mandatory. Working knowledge in Ukrainian and/or Russian is highly desirable.
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
- Experience in managing social media platforms and digital marketing campaigns.
Competencies:
- Ability to lead marketing and communication initiatives within a multi-disciplinary team in a humanitarian and development context
- A creative approach to developing content and communication strategies that engage and inspire the target audience.
- Commitment to upholding high ethical standards in communication, including accuracy, transparency, and respect for cultural differences.
8. Additional Considerations
- Risk Management: The Marketing & Communication Advisor will be responsible for identifying and mitigating risks related to communication activities, including managing reputational risks.
- Inclusion: The Marketing & Communication Advisor will ensure that all communication materials are inclusive, taking into account the diverse needs of the target audience.
