The primary purpose of the IT Generalist position is to serve as a vital link between the IT ecosystem and local business operations, ensuring seamless communication, support, and guidance for all IT-related matters. This role is responsible for managing IT processes, assets, and support services, while facilitating effective collaboration between strategic partners and local users. The IT Generalist plays a crucial role in enhancing user experience through local language support, documentation creation, and participation in IT improvement initiatives..
Major tasks and responsibilities:
Interface Management:
Act as the primary interface between the IT Ecosystem and local business/site operations, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Facilitate the basic onboarding of OSS technicians at field sites, providing necessary training and resources.
IT Process Guidance:
Provide guidance on IT processes to local business units, ensuring adherence to established protocols and best practices.
Assist local users in navigating IT systems and processes efficiently.
Facilitation of Support:
Serve as a facilitator between strategic partners and local users, coordinating support cases and ensuring timely resolution of issues.
Offer technical support for smaller and ad-hoc events as needed.
IT Asset Management:
Manage and track IT, including laptops and iOS devices, ensuring proper inventory control and maintenance.
Coordinate the allocation and return of IT equipment to users.
Participation in IT Projects:
Actively participate in various IT project activities, contributing to project planning, execution, and evaluation.
Collaborate with project teams to ensure alignment with local business needs.
Documentation Creation:
Create and maintain comprehensive IT documentation, including user guides, process manuals, and training materials.
Ensure documentation is up-to-date and accessible to all relevant stakeholders.
Smart Hands Support:
Provide "Smart Hands" support for technical tasks that require physical presence, such as equipment setup and troubleshooting.
Local Language Support:
Offer local language support by translating user demands from the local language to English and vice versa.
Assist users in creating and managing support tickets in English throughout their lifecycle.
IT Improvement Processes:
Engage in various IT improvement processes, identifying areas for enhancement and implementing solutions to optimize IT services.
Gather user feedback and collaborate with teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Ticket Monitoring:
Actively monitor support tickets to ensure timely resolution and escalation of issues as necessary.
Maintain communication with users regarding the status of their requests.
Basic IT Consultancy:
Provide basic IT consultancy to local users, offering guidance on technology solutions that meet their needs.
Assist in evaluating and recommending appropriate IT tools and resources.
Inventory Management:
Maintain an accurate inventory of IT assets and equipment, tracking usage and ensuring proper documentation.
Conduct regular audits to ensure inventory accuracy and accountability.
Key Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in an IT support or generalist role
- Proficiency in operating systems (Windows, macOS) and common software applications
- Experience with IT asset management tools and ticketing systems
- Strong analytical skills to assess issues and develop effective solutions
- Ability to troubleshoot technical problems and provide timely resolutions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with users and stakeholders
- Proficient in translating technical information into understandable terms for non-technical users
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
- Proactive approach to understanding user needs and enhancing their experience with IT services
