About the job 

The ICRC Protection Unit is seeking a motivated and experienced Protection Field Officer to join our team in Odesa. In this role, you will play a key part in implementing and monitoring ICRC protection activities, with a specific focus on the protection of the civilian population (PCP) file. Your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the day-to-day implementation and development of the safe cross-border passage program (SCBP). This program is designed to support and facilitate the voluntary repatriation of nationals from the parties to the conflict who are residing in the territory of the opposing party. 

Start date: March 2025 or Immediately

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

• Implement protection activities under the supervision of the line manager
• Contribute to the analysis of the security, socioeconomic, cultural, and political environment relevant to the ICRC, sharing key information with team members and reporting any changes in the situation
• Assist in the design and implementation of protection projects
• Collect, compile, and analyze protection-related information while ensuring appropriate staff risk management
• Analyze and contribute to the preparation of internal reports and activity programming as part of institutional exercises
• Establish and maintain relationships with municipal/regional authorities, local/regional National Society branches, the local community, suppliers, and other relevant stakeholders
• Take primary responsibility for the day-to-day implementation and development of the safe cross-border passage program (SCBP) as his/her main responsibility

About you

To be successful as a Protection Field Officer in the Protection Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:   

• Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
• University degree or relevant professional experience
• 3-5 years of previous professional experience in the field of social/political/economic science or similar
• Professional fluency (written and oral) command of English and Ukrainian
• Computer literacy
• Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
• Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
• Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
• Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
