Medicos del Mundo (MdM) is an independent international movement of active campaigners, who provide care, bear witness, and support social change. MdM campaigns for a world without any barriers to healthcare, a world in which health is recognized as a fundamental right. Medicos del Mundo is the Spanish division of the international MdM Network implementing emergency response and development programmes in Ukraine. MdM Mission in Ukraine was established following the emergency assessment conducted in April 2015 and focused on changes in the availability of and access to healthcare, particularly for the most vulnerable groups of the population, including the elderly and people with chronic diseases. One of the main goals of MdM is ensuring and extending the access of the Ukrainian population to timely and quality primary healthcare (PHC), Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services, and Gender Based Violence (GBV) prevention. In Chernihiv, Chernivtsi, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts MdM is targeting the most vulnerable communities through the mobile outreach unit approach, covering locations that have been affected by the hostilities or hosting large numbers of Internally Displaced People in the situation when the health system has been severely disrupted and overloaded during the war.
Mission :
Under the direct supervision of the Medical Coordinator, the CB Health Officer supports, plans, designs, implements and monitors Medicos del Mundo’s capacity building activities related to strengthening the health system in Ukraine.
Geographical scope of intervention:
Based in Kyiv, she/he must be willing to travel to work in the Medicos del Mundo intervention zones: Kyiv oblast, Chernihiv, Zaporizhia and Kharkiv.
Main tasks
- Conducts capacity building needs assessments and proposes activities and implementation strategies.
- Collaborates and participates, in any field survey, data collection and/or needs assessment organized by Medicos del Mundo in related to the strengthening the national health system.
- In coordination with the Health Manager and Eastern Field Expert, plans, design and ensures the implementation of all Medicos del Mundo capacity building activities, aiming at strengthening the health system.
- With close collaboration with the MH PSS team, prepares, supervises and evaluates the implementation of Medicos del Mundo SRH-related/Health workshops and trainings in any of its areas of intervention.
- He/she is in charge of the efficient management of any necessary logistics and administrative requirements for the implementation of trainings and workshops.
- Compiles interim and final reports for each capacity building activities based on program achievements.
- In collaboration with the MEAL team, she/he is responsible for the data collection and data analysis collected for or during the capacity building activities.
- In coordination with the Health Manager/ Health officers, he/she proposes and implements measures to improve the different training processes.
- Ensures that means of verification are collected for each activity based on the requirements of the donors.
- Liaises with authorities to validate implementation plans, guidelines and other medical material.
- Supervises the activities of Health Promoters to conduct community awareness sessions and ensure proper implementation of health-promoting activities.
- Checks the quality and approval of material (health topics) used for awareness sessions.
- Coordinates and/or supervises the needs assessments for the community awareness sessions, data collections, and feedback mechanism with the support of Health Officers, Health promoters, and the MH PSS team.
- Develops information materials in accordance with international/local standards and guidelines based on identified needs.
Others:
- Participates in meetings and workshops with local/international organisations and local authorities upon request of the Medical Coordinator.
- Respects Medicos del Mundo principles/values.
- Maintains full confidentiality for all work-related information.
- Performs any additional duty on request of the Medical Coordinator.
